Jean Fisher Brinkley

Jean Fisher Brinkley is NCMB’s Communications Director, a role that involves developing and overseeing production of communications materials and strategies needed to enhance public and professional awareness and understanding of the Board and its mission. She joined NCMB in 2008, after an 11-year career in newspaper journalism, most of it dedicated to reporting on medicine, health policy and the business aspects of health care.

Brinkley earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Mills College in Oakland, CA, and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in Raleigh with her husband and two daughters.

Carren Mackiewicz, NCCP

Carren Mackiewicz, NCCP

Carren Mackiewicz, NCCP, is the Director of Legal Department Operations of the Legal Department for the North Carolina Medical Board. In that capacity, she supervises the Board’s Paralegal Section with a team of four paralegals and assists with the support of four attorneys who act as the Board’s prosecutors and chief legal counsel. She also supervises the Board’s Compliance and Monitoring Section with a team of three staff who ensure that actions imposed by the Board are carried out. 

She serves on the Senior Staff Review Committee, which analyses disciplinary case and makes staff recommendations to the Board and also staffs the Licensing Committee to assist the Board with licensing related matters. Ms. Mackiewicz has been with the Board since January of 2010. 

Ms. Mackiewicz is a 1998 graduate of The University of Massachusetts - Lowell with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. She began her career with a Boston law firm that specializes in medical malpractice defense litigation. In 1999, she moved to North Carolina and continued her career in medical malpractice litigation. In 2001, she settled in with a law firm in historic downtown Durham that represented malpractice litigation patients for almost ten years before joining the North Carolina Medical Board in 2010 and expanding into administrative and regulatory law. 

Ms. Mackiewicz is a North Carolina State Bar Certified Paralegal.
