Despite efforts on many fronts across NC, a 2018 report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that opioid overdose deaths in the state have soared to the second-highest rate in the nation, with many deaths caused by fentanyl and heroin. These data underscore the importance of increasing the availability of treatment to North Carolinians struggling with addiction.

To help physicians and PAs learn more about one of the most promising approaches to treatment, NCMB has established a resource page on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. Find it at www.ncmedboard.org/MAT.
