As President of the North Carolina Medical Board, my vision is rooted in an unwavering commitment to safeguard the public while also fostering an environment where medical professionals can thrive. NCMB’s primary mission is to protect the public by ensuring that all licensees adhere to accepted standards of care and ethical conduct. However, we must also recognize the challenges faced by licensees and potential licensees and strive to create a system that is not only meticulous and thorough in its regulatory actions but also supportive and facilitative in its processes. To achieve this delicate balance, this year we have outlined initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency of our licensing procedures, improving access to information for medical professionals, and maintaining rigorous oversight to ensure public safety.

One of our key goals is to streamline the licensing process, thereby reducing bureaucratic hurdles and expediting the path for qualified individuals to practice medicine in North Carolina. By adopting advanced technology solutions and optimizing our administrative workflows, we plan to make the licensing process more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly while fulfilling the Board’s gatekeeper role in protecting patients in North Carolina.

Moreover, we are committed to providing comprehensive support to our licensees. This includes updated position statements that provide detailed guidance and set Board expectations. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth, we can help our medical practitioners stay at the forefront of their fields and provide quality care to their patients.

In addition to supporting our licensees, we will place a strong emphasis on public education and engagement. It is essential that the public is well-informed about the standards and expectations of medical care in our state, as well as the measures we are taking to ensure patient safety. Through transparent communication and proactive outreach efforts, we aim to build trust and confidence in the Medical Board’s role as guardian in the practice of medicine and surgery.

Ultimately, our aim is to create a harmonious and effective regulatory environment where public safety and professional support go hand in hand. By maintaining a focused dedication to our core mission while guiding and supporting licensees, I believe we can achieve a healthcare system that both protects the public and empowers our medical professionals to excel. Together, we can build a healthier, safer, and more supportive medical community for the benefit of all North Carolinians.
