The most recent episode of NCMB's podcast, MedBoard Matters, discusses the many dangers medical professionals face in the workplace due to violent incidents with patients or family members of patients.
The episode features an interview with Dr. Timothy Reeder, a Greenville emergency room physician who represents the 9th House district in the North Carolina House of Representatives. Dr. Reeder was the primary bill sponsor for the Healthcare Violence Protection Act, which was enacted October 1, 2023. The Act requires any hospital with an emergency department to have a law enforcement officer on duty at all times. In addition, the law mandates that assaults on health care workers be tracked and reported to the Division of Health Services Regulation within the NC Department of Health and Human Services.
On another note, MedBoard Matters is taking a summer break in June and July. We will be back in August with new content. Why not catch up on our past episodes in the meantime?
