Gov. Cooper announces appointment, reappointments

Gov. Roy Cooper recently appointed Christine M. Khandelwal, DO, an Apex palliative care physician who practices in Raleigh, to the North Carolina Medical Board. Gov. Cooper has also reappointed three current Board Members to a second term on the Board. All terms run from Nov. 1, 2018, through Oct. 31, 2021. Congratulations to all!
New Board Member
Dr. Khandelwal is Director of Inpatient Palliative Care at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh. She is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine (Geriatrics) at the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and is an adjunct associate professor in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Family Medicine - Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Khandelwal is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, which has granted her certificates of added qualification in both Palliative and Hospice Medicine and in Geriatrics.
Reappointed Board Members
Dr. Jonnalagadda is Associate Chief of Staff for the Greenville Health Care Center, overseeing the eastern region of the state for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs - Durham. Dr. Jonnalagadda is a partner in private practice with Greenville Psychiatric Association, P.A. She also serves on the adjunct teaching faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Jonnalagadda works as a clinical psychiatrist with the VA. She is board certified in child, adolescent and adult psychiatry and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Ms. McDonald-Fletcher currently specializes in colorectal surgery and practices at the VA Hospital in Durham, where she has administrative and clinical responsibilities. She also has experience working in neurosurgery, orthopedics, and neuro-oncology. Ms. McDonald-Fletcher earned degrees in biology and chemistry at North Carolina Central University and completed her training as a physician assistant at Duke University. Ms. McDonald-Fletcher also completed the PA Surgical Residency Program at Norwalk Hospital/Yale University.
Ms. Patterson is a founding member of Integrated Pain Solutions, a private practice serving the Sand Hills region of NC and part of the Triangle. She has more than 18 years of experience in pain management. She completed her training as a nurse practitioner at Duke University and is an active member of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses.
