The Board cannot investigate the type of complaints listed below, but we have provided some direction for you. 

Billing issues 

The Board does not have the statutory authority to resolve billing matters. You may want to contact the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office/Consumer Protection Division at 919-716-6000. Website: www.ncdoj.gov/protecting-consumers 

Insurance issues 

For resolution of matters of insurance covering a bill, the patient should pursue the coverage denial via the insurance company’s appeal mechanism, and/or contact the North Carolina Department of Insurance at 919-807-6750. Website: www.ncdoi.gov 

Financial compensation/Help filing a lawsuit 

The Board cannot help patients obtain financial compensation, find an attorney, or aid in any way with filing a malpractice case. You may want to visit www.ncaj.com/for-the-public for an attorney directory.
